Causes of WW1
There were many causes of World War 1, included nationalism, imperialism, and alliances. The important alliances were The Triple Alliance and The Triple Entente. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand was the major event that caused the war, with all of the declarations of war following soon after. The main countries that were involved in the war included Great Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Serbia, Russia, France, and Belgium.
Trench Warfare
Trench warfare involved the digging of elaborate trenches from which two enemies would attack from. Trench warfare was harsh, but many people did not know about how truly terrible it was. From poisonous gases to machine guns to rifles and barbed wire, many soldiers often died during battle.
How WW1 Became a Total War
-The war had demanded raw and manufactured material for there combat against other nations, this lead to the limitation of economic goods leading to the economic strategy called the home front which suggested that most of the money should go towards the military because that's where the men are fighting for their lives for the country. In this process women had gained many advantages like the right to vote in election while being able work in the place of men when they were fighting in war. After the war the people used propaganda to persuade the people to not let another war like this ever happen again.
Global Spread of WW1
The Great War had impacts around the world specifically towards Japan, Africa, Southwest Asia, Gallipoli, and the Ottomans. Each country had gone through battles and disputes to try and protect their empire, withhold freedom, or gain more power and land.
Russian Revolution
In 1917, Russian citizens had suffered food shortages and unfair treatment by Czar Nicholas II. Eventually, strikes had occurred and the police were not able to suppress the uprisings so Nicholas was forced to resign his throne. After the February revolution, the Bolshevik revolution occurred which was a group led by Lenin who believed the government should be a communist government. Eventually, Lenin took control of the government and succeeded to make Russia the first communists country in the world.
German Submarine Warfare
During the war Germany was highly dependent on its submarine fleet, so it can break British economically and break the British blockade. German military experts calculated that submarine attacks against the ships of Great Britain and all the ships headed to Great Britain would defeat Great Britain in Six months.
Wilson's 14 Points
After the war, the Allies attended the Paris Peace Conference to discuss terms such as the treaty of Versailles for the defeated nations. In Paris, the diplomats formed the League of Nations to prevent any similar destruction in the future. The Mandate system was used for Germany's former colonies. The compromise split the colonies up between the victors. The 14 points was a revolutionary speech by Woodrow Wilson that was basically America's terms for peace.
The Treaty of Versailles
The victors in World War I had to compromise in World War I and it so happened that Germany was the one to be punishment. Germany was to take the guilt for the entire war and had to pay reparations, as well as have restrictions on it's army, and give up some land. The treaty was a failure in the end, however, because it was strategically weak and many future events, such as World War II.
